An iPhone was reported to having been stolen on August 27th that later on led to a long chase at San Francisco’s Ocean View neighborhood and further led to an officer firing and schools being locked for half an hour.
The stolen iPhone revealed two firearms and property
The hunt began at 6:30 am on a Monday morning. Two armed men, after stopping near a passerby on the 200 block at Minerva Street, stole his iPhone and fled. The phone was tracked down at Noe valley sometime later through a GPS app. Officers confronted the two suspects who escaped on foot immediately.
The thieves ran down the Valley Street and down a staircase near St. Paul’s Church at around 7 am. On seeing the officer chase, one of them turned towards the officer with his hands concealed, which urged the officer to discharge her gun in defense. The officer injured her ankle during the chase, which helped the suspect get away. However, the other man was caught soon on Church Street.
After about a half-hour, the stolen phone was tracked inside a car, which had two people, one sitting in the back and another one hiding in the back. Two firearms, and some property probably from a robbery committed earlier was also recovered, police added. The car belonged to a residence on 7th Avenue, where two additional suspects were detained later. The men who were found in the car were taken into custody and were arrested for suspicious possession of stolen property and firearms. The chase resulted in a lock down of schools in the area during the peak morning hours. Cell phone theft has been increasing in the area as was reported by one of the residents from the neighborhood.
