I’m going to prison and I’m freaked-out. The thought of dealing with lawyers, agents, and going to court makes me feel sick. I can’t sleep; my mind keeps switching from one horror show to the next. I am overwhelmed by everything that I must contend with. I’m not sure I can handle this. What should I do?
Of course you are freaked-out; only an android wouldn’t be. The feds specialize in psychological sadism. Unfortunately , techniques that were developed to break spies and mobsters are now used on everyday citizens to get at their money. Agents and prosecutors revel in unlimited power, and they get high using overkill against you. Their purpose is to make you crack so you will give them everything they want. As unfair as it is, this is exactly what you must do. The sooner you are able to accept this unimaginable reality, the sooner your world will begin to normalize.
Despite your nightmare, you must put health first. If you do not eat and sleep, you will become progressively less functional at a time when performance is critical. You cannot afford to space-out, give up or sit down and drink. Each obstacle you knock out of the way will cause your stress level to drop. Remember, the feds can do a lot of things, but they can’t eat you. You will survive, start again, and do better than ever. It seems unbelievable now, but before you know it, your trouble will be a fading memory. For now, you must marshal your defenses and fortify your mind against the barrages of stressors.
Here are a few simple things that you ought to consider doing as soon as possible:
1) Make an appointment to see a doctor for anxiety and depression. This is very important for several reasons. First, it will provide immediate stress-relief. It could also allow you to receive medication after your surrender for a more mellow transition. Also, it will increase your chances of taking the drug program during your stay. If you have no history of guns or violence, this will deduct or other drugs.
For best results, call six to seven doctors in your area and explain your situation. Be up front. Tell them you are going to prison and are having panic attacks. Choose one you like who is sympathetic (most are) and can see you right away. Make sure they are qualified to prescribe medication. Tell them if you have a high stress personality and if you have a history of self-medicating with alcohol or other drugs.
The sooner the better you do this the better it will look in your personal file. Be sure to document every doctor visit and provide your lawyer with copies. Ultimately, you will have your doctor write a letter to the court asking that you continue to receive your medication inside. In addition to this, you will ask for a letter recommending that you receive treatment for substance abuse.
2) In the mean time you will need to prioritize rest and good nutrition. If you are having trouble with this try a couple of the over-the-counter p.m. tablets and turn off the telephone ringer. If you have to, make yourself drink smoothies, fruit juice, and breakfast drinks.
3) On a rested mind, itemize your impending tasks according to importance and time remaining before your sentencing. You will place each item of concern on one of three lists. Absolutely must do, should do, and would like to do. Make sure each daily itinerary is realistic. Always make time to eat and sleep.
