A large number of men were arrested in San Francisco recently for being involved in a drug trafficking ring. A total of 28 men have been arrested from Seattle and the Bay Area. Police are looking for another 15 people in connection with the crime. The criminal group primarily deals with distributing methamphetamine and cocaine.
Operation Honduran Highway Continuing for 4 Years
The drug trafficking ring investigation is referred to as the ‘Honduran Highway’. The operation is being carried out by the DEA, San Francisco police departments and Internal Revenue Service in a collaborative manner. The arrests are a result of a four-year long investigation.
Officers of San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force along with DEA agents came to a house in the neighborhood of San Mateo at around 6 am. The investigating team came there in search of a man whose name was listed in a grand jury indictment.
San Mateo Resident Describes the Incident
A resident of San Mateo who was witness to the incident described the raid in detail. According to the witness, the police brought out quite a few men clad in pajamas out of the house near San Mateo. They were mostly teens and children. A San Mateo man, Fortunato Rodelo-Lara, was arrested. He is 40 years old.
He was brought to a San Francisco federal court. A detention hearing will take place next week. The accused has been alleged of being involved in a narcotics conspiracy. He, along with other defendants, has been sentenced to life-imprisonment. The accused have to pay fines between $2 million and $4 million.
The accused ring leaders of the drug trafficking operation are Jose Angel Monroy and Antonio Jose Diaz-Rivera. They have been accused of committing a series of crimes related to substance abuse.
