This year the Bay to Breakers took precaution and borrowed a bomb squad from Walnut Creek in order to stiffen security along the route. The Boston Marathon bombing caused San Franscico security to outlaw large backpacks from the race course this past weekend. Runners were reminded to report any suspicious behavior before starting the race. San Francisco officials arrested 21 people for public intoxication, one for possession of a firearm, one for a robbery during the event, 16 people were taken into sobering centers, 20 house-parties were notified to end their breaker festives.
