It’s time to celebrate Fourth of July and that also means it’s time for DUI checkpoints in the Bay Area. The California Highway Patrol will deploy all available officers on freeways and county roads for a “maximum enforcement period” beginning at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3 and ending at midnight on Sunday, July 7.
“The Fourth of July is one of the deadliest holidays due to impaired-driving fatalities,” said San Rafael Police Traffic Sergeant Jim Correa in a release. “Too many people die behind the wheel each year due to those who choose to drive after drinking, so our officers will be out in full force this Fourth of July holiday weekend showing zero tolerance for impaired drivers.”

San Francisco – Areas of the City from July 4, 5 at 8:30 p.m to early in the morning
San Rafael & Novato: Areas of the City July 4, 8 p.m – 1 a.m
San Anselmo – Areas of the City July 5, 8 p.m – 1 a.m
Lodi- Areas of the City – July 4, 8 p.m – 1 a.m
Modesto – Areas of the City – July 4, 8 p.m – 1 a.m
San Jose – – Areas of the City – July 4, 8 p.m – 1 a.m
Drivers caught driving impaired could face jail time, license suspension and insurance premium increases, in addition to fines, fees, DUI classes and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
The following are easy steps to have a safe and happy Fourth of July:
– Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin
– Before drinking, designate a sober driver and leave your car keys at home
– If you’re impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation to get home safely
– Use you community’s sober ride program
– Report Drunk Drivers (Call 911)
