Arranging for Bail

A bail is when a person is given permission by the court to remain in liberty until the case is concluded in exchange for cash or a bail bond. This allows defendants to comply and attend all required court appearances.  If a defendant fails to appear in court the bail is then taken way. The judge at this point will proceed to issue an arrest warrant which is considered a crime.

Most courts and jail will accept:

• cash or check for the full amount of the bail
• a purchased bond from a bail bond seller

There is no need to hire an attorney in order to arrange for a bail. Bails can be done in person or over the phone. The defendant does not have to be the one to pay for the bail other family members or friends are able to pay for the bail. For bail offenses that are classified as felonies usually is 5 to 10 times the bail required for misdemeanors. People who would like to pay less must go before a judge. If this is the case it is best to have an attorney represent you before court. This allows an attorney to assure the judge that the case is not as serious as it is being presented through documents.
