Accused Mass Murderer to Appear in Court

Vietnamese national, Binh Thai Luc, who allegedly murdered five people in San Francisco, will be presented in court to face multiple charges for first degree murder. Last month, the accused is said to have killed two men and three women at a home situated near San Francisco’s City College.

Accused Used Blunt Weapon for Murder

On March 23rd, Luc, 35, allegedly used a blunt weapon to murder Hua Shun Lei, 65, Ying Xue Lei, 37, Wan Yi Xu, 62, and Chia Huei Chu, 30. He then waited for his final victim, Vincent Lei, 32, to arrive.

Luc was reprimanded on March 25th and made a court appearance last week. As he had not yet been assigned a lawyer, Luc did not submit a plea. There was a bit of confusion as to who would represent him – a private lawyer or one from the public defender’s office.

Adachi Keen to Represent Luc; Loses to Private Attorney

Jeff Adachi, public defender, stated that Luc should be represented by his office. Adachi’s office has also represented Brian Luc, Binh Thai’s brother in a firearm and DUI case last year.

Public prosecutors have objected to Adachi’s statement as it will be inappropriate for the Public defender’s office to represent both brothers as Brian Luc may be a likely witness in this murder case.

Agreeing with public prosecutors, a judge has allocated Mark Goldrosen, A private lawyer to Binh Thai Luc. A writ has been filed by Adachi to permit Luc to be represented by the Public defender’s office. Adachi will move to the San Francisco Court of Appeal if the writ is rejected.

Binh Thai was to be Deported

Binh Thai was supposed to have been deported to Vietnam after he served prison sentence for battery and assault six years ago. According to the US officials, the deportation did not take place as the government of Vietnam failed to provide the requisite documentation.
