20 Indicted in Connection with San Francisco Drug Trafficking Ring

A federal court in San Francisco indicted 20 men recently for possessing drugs. The defendants allegedly distributed close to 280 grams of cocaine along with significant amounts of methamphetamine, according to a statement by US attorney, Melinda Haag.

Accused Ran Drug Trafficking Ring for Long

The indictment mentions that the defendants were involved in drug dealing for a long time. 15 among the indicted were engaged in the illegal distribution of narcotics. They also possessed narcotics with an intention of distributing them in future. Criminal enterprises were run by two of the indicted men. These were operated through drug trafficking. A substantial income was generated through these enterprises.

Defendants to Appear for Hearings Next Week

The defendants were arrested near the Bay Area. They have to appear for hearings which have been scheduled for next week and the week following it. The hearings will be held in a San Francisco federal court before either Magistrate Judge Maria-Elena James or Magistrate Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley.

Sentences to be Given in Accordance with US Sentencing Guidelines

The sentences for the defendants will be pronounced in accordance with the US sentencing guidelines. Among the defendants indicted by the jury, two have been reportedly involved in wire fraud as well. These men are Jorge Peraza and Armando Antonio Monroy. They have been sentenced to 30 years of imprisonment. In addition, a fine of $1 million has also been imposed on the accused.
