A Florida father who beat his 11-year-old son’s alleged molester unconscious before calling 911 told CNN that his son is a hero and that the boy is the only reason the man is alive.
The father of the victim, Jason Browning attacked 18-year-old, Raymond Frolander, after he walked into a bedroom of the Daytona Beach home and found him sexually assaulting the boy on July 18.
Upon arriving home, Browning believed that the look on Fronlander’s face made him believe something was wrong. Browning says Frolander’s pants fell down to his ankles and nothing else needed to be said when he saw the exposed genitals.
The 11-year-old told authorities that Frolander had performed oral sex on him and instructed the boy to fondle him. The boy also mentioned that Frolander began abusing him a few years ago.
According to the Browning he grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen and was going to kill Frolander when his son stepped in front of him and stopped him. Frolander who is being held in Volusia County Jail, without bond, faces a charge of sexual battery of a child.
The right of self-dense in Florida entitles you to use force to stop an attack on yourself or another person, including deadly force to prevent imminent death, great bodily harm, or “the imminent commission of a forcible felony.” Browing has not been charged.
Browning reportedly posted a photo on Facebook saying he needed $1 million to pay for the boy’s care after the assault. He also set up a GoFundMe page. The GoFundMe link on the Facebook page directed visitors to a page asking for help saving a mother of four from being evicted. Many have expressed concern that the victim could suffer additional psychological stress as a result of his father’s actions.

Child Sexual Assault FAQ
When your child has been victimized by sexual abuse, the path forward seems overwhelming and confusing. You’re dealing with trauma, anger, fear, and uncertainty about how to seek justice for what happened. These cases involve sensitive investigations, complicated legal processes, and difficult decisions about your child’s wellbeing. At Morales Law Firm, we stand beside families during their darkest moments, fighting to hold perpetrators accountable while protecting young victims from further harm.
The criminal justice system can feel intimidating, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. We work closely with prosecutors, advocate for your family’s needs, and help you understand each step of the legal process. Whether the abuse occurred within your family, at school, through a trusted authority figure, or by a stranger, we’re here to support you through this difficult journey toward healing and justice.
What Legal Options Do Families Have After Abuse?
Families affected by child sexual abuse have several legal pathways to pursue justice and accountability. Criminal prosecution through the district attorney’s office can result in imprisonment, fines, and mandatory sex offender registration for convicted offenders. We help families cooperate with law enforcement investigations and criminal proceedings to strengthen the prosecution’s case. Beyond criminal charges, civil lawsuits allow families to seek financial compensation for medical expenses, therapy costs, pain and suffering, and long-term psychological harm. Many victims don’t realize they can pursue both criminal and civil remedies simultaneously. Civil cases also have different statutes of limitations that may allow claims even when criminal prosecution isn’t possible. We guide families through reporting procedures, evidence preservation, and coordination with child protective services. Our role involves making sure your child’s voice gets heard throughout the legal process while protecting them from unnecessary trauma during interviews and court proceedings.
Who Should Families Contact When Abuse Is Discovered?
Immediate action is necessary when you discover or suspect child sexual abuse has occurred. First, contact local law enforcement or call 911 if the child is in immediate danger. San Francisco Police Department has specially trained detectives who handle these sensitive investigations. Simultaneously, report the abuse to Child Protective Services, which investigates allegations and can remove children from dangerous situations. Medical examination at a hospital or specialized clinic should happen as soon as possible to document injuries and collect forensic evidence. After taking these emergency steps, contact a San Francisco, CA child Molestation lawyer who represents victims and their families. We coordinate with all these agencies to make sure the investigation proceeds properly. Many families also benefit from connecting with victim advocacy organizations that provide counseling, support groups, and resources for trauma recovery. We maintain relationships with therapists, medical professionals, and social workers who understand the unique needs of abuse survivors. Taking swift action preserves evidence, protects your child from further harm, and strengthens any future legal cases.
Why Do These Cases Take So Long to Resolve?
Child sexual abuse cases move through the legal system slowly for important reasons related to evidence gathering and victim protection. Law enforcement must conduct thorough investigations that often involve multiple interviews, forensic analysis, and coordination between various agencies. Prosecutors need time to build strong cases that prove guilt beyond reasonable doubt, which requires careful preparation. Courts prioritize the child’s emotional wellbeing, sometimes allowing delays to accommodate therapy schedules or developmental needs. Defense attorneys file motions and challenges that extend timelines as they exercise their clients’ constitutional rights. We understand how frustrating these delays feel when you want immediate justice. However, rushing cases can result in weaker prosecutions or overturned convictions on appeal. We keep families informed throughout the process and advocate for reasonable timelines that balance thoroughness with closure. Civil cases often proceed on different schedules than criminal matters, sometimes taking years to reach settlement or trial. During this waiting period, we help families access victim compensation funds and connect with support services that don’t require case resolution.
How Can Families Support Their Child During Legal Proceedings?
Supporting a child through the legal process requires balancing their need for justice with protection from additional trauma. We work with families to prepare children for what to expect during interviews, depositions, and potential court testimony. Child advocacy centers provide comfortable, non-threatening environments for forensic interviews conducted by specially trained professionals. Therapy should begin immediately and continue throughout legal proceedings to help children process their experiences and develop coping strategies. We coordinate with prosecutors to minimize the number of times children must recount traumatic events. California law allows various accommodations for child witnesses, including testifying via closed-circuit television or using comfort items during court appearances. Parents should maintain normal routines as much as possible while remaining available for emotional support. We advise families on age-appropriate ways to explain legal proceedings without overwhelming children with details they don’t need. It’s important that children understand they’re not responsible for what happened or for the legal consequences the perpetrator faces. We’ve worked with countless families through this process and can connect you with resources specifically designed for young abuse survivors.
What Compensation Is Available for Victims and Families?
Sexual abuse victims and their families can pursue several forms of financial compensation for the harm suffered. Civil lawsuits against perpetrators can result in monetary damages covering past and future medical expenses, therapy costs, lost wages for parents who missed work, and compensation for pain and suffering. When abuse occurred in institutional settings like schools, churches, or youth organizations, those entities may also bear legal responsibility for negligent supervision or failure to protect children. California’s Victims Compensation Board provides funds to help cover immediate expenses like medical treatment, mental health services, and lost income while criminal cases proceed. Insurance policies held by perpetrators or organizations where abuse occurred may provide additional recovery avenues. We evaluate all potential sources of compensation and pursue maximum recovery for our clients. Some families worry that pursuing money seems inappropriate, but financial resources play a crucial role in accessing quality long-term treatment for trauma. Civil cases also serve important purposes beyond money by holding institutions accountable and potentially preventing future abuse. We handle all legal aspects so families can focus on healing and supporting their children through recovery.
