Criminal Defense Attorney

When you are in legal trouble, for your freedom it may be expected to pay a “pretty penny”. This is why many pay a private attorney when they are facing criminal charges. There are benefits, and disadvantages to some but hiring the right attorney can be the end all be all to your case. After you have asked around, and researched favorable attorneys in your area, you have a decision to make.

To some, the criminal charges are already enough of a burden but to pay a private attorney may invite new stress into your life. This may actually be the only “disadvantage” to hiring a private attorney however.

Private attorneys do not have to accept every case, typically if an attorney decides (unlike the ability of a public defender) to take on your case they are aware of the time it will take for a positive outcome and are sometimes already letting you know by accepting, that they can handle your case. Private attorneys are able to lie out the facts of your case, discover the cracks in the prosecutions case, and build a defense with more time and focus than a public defender, because their caseloads are not nearly as large and they likely have a team of skilled professionals such as legal assistants and paralegals to help carry the load.

When you pay for services, you are opening the possibility of more resources that will ultimately benefit the building of your defense, such as paying for investigators, and expert witnesses. Because you are paying, there is a sense of working for you and not with you, which many public defenders may feel. There is a certain level of comfort when you are able to reach your attorney and meet with them when you wish to discuss your case. Which is another advantage with hiring a private attorney, like a Dekalb County attorney. Always consider that this is their business, also, so a win for you is always a win for them.

All in all, there is a level of comfort that you will gain when you hire an attorney instead of taking whichever public defender is appointed to you by a court. If you or someone you know is facing criminal charges it is best to weigh out all of your options before deciding a private attorney. Be sure to speak with a skilled and knowledgeable criminal defense attorney that is reasonably priced but is willing to fight for you in and out of courtroom.
