So when someone is convicted of a sex crime and they have to register pursuant to penal code section 290, they’re automatically put on this website, Megan’s website, which is a statewide website where information about
a person that’s convicted of particular sex crimes are listed.
Now, there are ways to get off of that list if you are put on it. You have to fill out a form with the Department of Justice and particular crimes you can be taken off the website. For instance, if you are convicted of sexual battery or a misdemeanor annoying a child or some particular possession of child pornography, you can be excluded from the website which is great. That means your personal information and your address
are not publicized on that website. There’s also another way to get off if you are related to the victim of the crime and you finish your probation without any problems and you jump through a few other hoops.
you can petition to get off of that website also. So also if you are convicted of a felony and it’s reducible to a misdemeanor, you may have a chance to get off of that website. You have to jump through a lot of hoops and it’s best to hire an attorney to help you with that process.
