Edwin Ramos, who is facing trial for allegedly killing three people in 2008, has shifted blame to Wilfredo Reyes, a friend, for the crime. Ramos, 25, testified that he was innocent and only accompanied Reyes in the vehicle.
Father and Two Sons Gunned Down
On June 22nd,2008, 48-year old Anthony Bologna was returning home from a picnic with his sons 16-year old Matthew and 20-year old Michael. The three men were fatally shot from a Chrysler 300. According to San Francisco prosecutors, Ramos had mistaken the men as members from a rival gang when he allegedly shot them.
Ramos, a resident of El Sobrante and a member of the MS-13 gang, was arrested by the San Francisco Police on the 25th of June 2008. When he was arrested, Ramos claimed that he was at home during the time of the shooting and had left MS-13 two years ago. He later admitted to driving the vehicle.
Reyes Threatened Ramos’s Family
According to Ramos, he was driving a car owned by Reyes, a Pasadena Locos Surenos member, who shot the Bolognas men. Reyes threatened Ramos’ family to never speak about the incident. Prosecutors picked on several discrepancies in Ramos’s story during cross-examination. In his earlier testimony to the San Francisco Police, Ramos stated that he had parked the car and walked for several hours in the city.
Now, Ramos claims to have hitched a ride with his cousin after dropping Reyes and parking the vehicle. Reyes is still absconding from the San Francisco Police. Harry Dorfman, Assistant District Attorney, questioned Ramos on his gang activities which revealed that Ramos was a cocaine dealer.
The Bologna murder trial started three months ago when the jury was selected early in the year. In light of Ramos’s new testimony, trial is expected to continue till the end of the month. Bulletproof shields and gun detectors have been placed in the courtroom for the trial.
